Eagle Profile

Jessica Cox, was born in 1983 in Sierra Vista, Arizona, without arms due to a rare congenital condition. From an early age, she learned to navigate daily life using her feet, developing independence, adaptability, and determination that would shape her future accomplishments. Raised with the expectation that she would participate fully in the world around her, Jessica learned to drive, type, swim, and perform routine tasks independently, refusing to allow physical limitations to define her capabilities. She later earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Arizona, combining academic training with lived experience to better understand resilience, motivation, and human potential.

In 2008, Jessica Cox achieved international recognition when she became the world’s first licensed armless pilot, earning her sport pilot certificate after rigorous flight training. She learned to fly a light-sport aircraft using only her feet to operate the controls, working closely with flight instructors and aviation medical examiners to demonstrate that safe and effective flight was possible without arms. Her achievement challenged long-standing assumptions within aviation and regulatory communities and set a historic precedent for inclusion and adaptive capability. She later flew across the United States as part of outreach efforts designed to inspire individuals with disabilities and to promote innovation, accessibility, and confidence in aviation.

Beyond aviation, Jessica is also a black belt in Taekwondo, having trained for years and competed alongside able-bodied practitioners. Her martial arts training reinforced discipline, perseverance, and mental toughness, qualities that parallel her approach to both flying and public speaking. Through these pursuits, she demonstrated that physical difference does not preclude excellence in demanding and traditionally exclusive fields.

Following her groundbreaking accomplishments, Jessica transitioned into a career as an internationally recognized motivational speaker, advocate, and author. She has delivered keynote addresses and lectures to audiences around the world, including military organizations, educational institutions, corporations, healthcare professionals, and government agencies. Her presentations focus on resilience, leadership, overcoming adversity, and redefining perceived limitations, drawing on personal experience rather than abstraction. She is the author of Disarm Your Limits, in which she shares her life story and practical lessons on adaptability, self-belief, and personal growth.

Throughout her career, Jessica Cox has served as a visible advocate for people with disabilities, emphasizing capability over limitation and encouraging organizations to rethink accessibility and inclusion. Her work has been featured in numerous national and international media outlets, documentaries, and educational programs, further expanding her impact and reach.
